FAQs On Network Computing

How do I connect the L130/L230 directly to the Host PC?
Use a cross cable to connect the terminal to the Host PC via the ethernet port. To connect up to 10 L Series Stations to the host, you need to install as many LAN adapters equal to the number of L Series terminal(s) that will be connected to the Host PC or alternatively all can be connected via a LAN switch

How do I use a dynamic IP address when the Host PC is connected to a Router?
A router allocates the IP address dynamically to the Host PCs and L Series Stations. Users do not need to set the IP address. Set the network configuration to dynamic IP address in the set up window.

If a router/hub is connected to the Host PC, how do I connect a L series to the Host PC with a static IP address?
You have to allocate the static IP address of the Host PC and the L Series Stations through a router/hub. Contact your network manager to get the static IP address of the Host PC.

I am not connected and a screen displays the "DHCP server was not found" message.
L130/L230 Station is set to get the IP address dynamically. If you enter the setup screen of the terminal by pressing Setup, you can check in the Network tab and make sure that the "Get Dynamic IP Address" option is selected. To use this option the router has to have DHCP server functionality activated. If you do not have a router, you have to install a Host PC that can allocate the DHCP addresses on your network.

When you connect the L130/L230 directly to a Host PC, you cannot use this option. In this case, select "Use Static IP address" and input IP address.

Using IP router, check whether the DHCP function is activated, power is on, and LAN cable is connected. Turn it off and wait several seconds, and then turn it back on. If you use a Firewall program and certain outer protocols are blocked, you might not be able to connect to the L130/L230 station.

When I am connected to the Host PC by pressing the Connect button, the "Host unreachable..." message appears and I can't connect.
If there are no PCs on a network, this message appears. Check whether the Host PC is turned on. If it is turned on, check whether the IP address of Host PC and the Terminal server IP address of L130/L230 are the same. You can check the IP address of the Host PC by running the ipconfig.exe command in the command line of the DOS prompt. Also, check the LAN cable connection.

If you are using a hub or a router, check whether the hub or router is turned on and check the LAN cable connection. If the L130/L230 is directly connected to a Host PC and there is no problem with the network connection, refer to the following steps: START -> Control Panel ->Network Connections -> Local Area Connection -> Properties -> Advanced Tab. If Internet Connection Firewall is checked, click the Settings. Uncheck the remote desktop option in the Advanced Tab of the Advanced Setting Windows.

If you use a certain firewall program that blocks the outer connection, you can't use your L130/L230. Turn off the L130/L230 and wait several seconds, and then turn it on. Check to make sure that any third party Antivirus, Firewall, or security related programs do not interfere with our software. Please disable these programs before the initial setup.

My mouse works but all of the other devices do not function properly. The Vspace terminal server console shows the L Series station is operating well.
This phenomenon occurs when the LAN cable is unplugged accidently or the router or switch is shut down. In this status, the terminal user operates the mouse and thought that the terminal station is still running. By the unstable power supplied to device that is not stable or other reasons, this phenomenon can also occur. If so, please check the connection of LAN cable or the operating status of the network device like the power stability status.

Can I use a 10Mbps LAN adapter on an old dummy hub?
L130/L230 is designed for 100 Mbps switches or routers. If you use a 10 Mbps LAN adapter or an old dummy hub, the transfer speed of the data is lowered and the performance of the system is reduced. The use of a 10 Mbps adapter or an old dummy hub is not recommended.

I can't connect the L130/L230  to the Host PC anymore.
Whenever Windows introduced new patches or hotfixes, the disconnection or Win32sys message may occurred. Please uninstall the patch files or download and install the updated Vspace Terminal Server software if available from our download site.

I want to upgrade the speed of the L130/L230.
You may increase its speed:
1) Use a CPU which utilizes Hyper-Threading technologies and large L2 Cache memory size.
2) Install more RAM.
3) Purchase a new hard disk drive with faster access speeds (fast rpm).
4) Add more LAN adapters when multiple L series are connected through the switch.
5) Reduce the number of L Series connection to Host PC by adding more Host PCs to connect.
6) Also make sure that QuickTime (qttask.exe) is not running in the task manager.

What to do with this error Message: No Terminal Server found or not all services initialized yet, please click on the connection list and try it again?
This message appears when there is no Host PC with the terminal server installed in the network currently connected. Check if Vspace Terminal server software is installed in Host PC or Host PC with the terminal server installed is connected to the network.

When Connect button is clicked under the L130/L230 window, (TS ERROR - INVALID OR NO SERIAL NUMBER) message appears and there is no connection made.
This message appears when there is no serial number in the Host PC that it is trying to connect to. To be connected to the host pc, serial number should be registered in the NCT console of the Host PC. Serial number can be found under the bottom of L130/L230 purchased.

Status of serial number appears as (Expired) and L130/L230 cannot be connected.
This happens when user changed Host PC's system date to the date earlier than the date NCT-2000-XP is installed. Change Host PC's system date to the current date.

I have changed screen resolution setting in Windows. However, resolution changes after log off and on again.
L130/L230 itself has ability to set screen resolution. In the Setup screen of the terminal, select TS Options Tab and selects the best optimal resolution with your desired display monitor and click Save button.

Can L130/L230 automatically do a connection to the preferred host PC?
Yes. Under the TS Connection #1, check the Auto logon button. Key in the User Name and Password.

Can the user select from multiple hosts for connection?
Yes, if more than one host exists in the network, the user can select one of them for connection. This is useful for mission critical application where a redundancy host PC can be used during the down time of a host PC.

Is Windows OS & Application licensing required?
Our position is still as a hardware bare bone supplier. For any additional software licensing matters , please consult the relevant software vendors. For school customers or corporate MNCs, check if there is any campus license agreement or corporate agreement with the relevant software parties.

Is Linux OS supported?
Yes, For L130/L230, OpenSuse 10.2 is recommended. For X300, ubuntu 7.04 is recommended.
To download the linux terminal server software and test on linux platform, please go through a short survey at :
