FAQs on TMAS Wireless Telemetry

What is the unique selling point of TMAS solutions?
There are many standard GSM alarms in the market. The value of TMAS solution lies in the unique SMS server to support the wireless Central Monitoring Station (CMS). It can perform remote updating, remote testing, remote monitoring and control of all TMAS units, remote access control of facilities and report generations. When the deployment size gets bigger and scattered, such SMS server features will prove more valuable to service providers since it reduces operation management cost and time.

How can you setup a wireless CMS?
To setup a wireless CMS for multiple remote monitoring sites, you just need a normal PC/Laptop, our TMA-T35i GSM modem terminal and the TMAS PC Manager or TMAS Web Server software. You will have the full control of your CMS.

Is it a must that both wireless CMS and the remote TMAS telemetry units to use the data-plan from the same telco?
Yes, we recommend the wireless CMS and the remote TMAS telemetry units are using the data-plan from the same telco. This is to ensure reliable remote management. Different telcos will have different SMS truncation methods and message queue priorities. However, it is not necessary to have all authorized mobile users to use the data plan service from the same telco.

What is the main difference between TMN-50, TMN-1000 & TMN-5000?
TMN-50 (4DI,1DO) is designed to cater for cost effective SMS alert & SMS control solution in a large scale deployment. TMN-1000 (8DI, 8DO) is suitable for large infrastructure monitoring with the need of local battery backup, AC fail & battery weak alerting, scheduling. TMN-5000 has additional features of SMS access control on top of TMN-1000 for restricting remote facility accesses and perform audit trail at CMS.

Is there any limitation to the number of supported TMAS telemetry units by the wireless CMS?
There is basically no software limitation since the architecture is designed to be scalable. TMAS PC Manager Lite supports up to 100 TMAS telemetry devices. If the deployment size is larger than 100, you may approach our resellers or TCAM to discuss your needs.

Is it a must that both the remote TMAS telemetry units and the authorized users are using the data-plan from the same telco?
No, it is not a must but it is recommended to use the same telco to avoid inter-telco delays.

What happens if there is a power failure?
For TMN-1000 & TMN-5000, its SLA backup battery will back up power for min 4 hours of continual operation. Both models have AC fail alerting when the AC is cut off . When the backup battery is going low level, a battery weak SMS alert will be sent out to inform all authorized users.

Is there any ethernet interface for TMAS telemetry unit?
No, it is designed to be standalone because many service providers prefer it to be independent from their existing infrastructure or not to be connected to their secured proprietary network. TMAS solutions is therefore flexible to deploy anywhere under the GSM network.

What type of inputs and outputs are accepted by TMAS telemetry unit?
For the inputs, they can be any dry contact, normally closed or normally open sensors or just high/low voltage detection. (0 to 5V is recommended; 0 to 24V is the maximum). For the outputs, they can be connected via external relay. Analog inputs may be customized upon request while pulse count inputs support will be based on case to case.

Why the modem (GREEN) LED is always blinking non-stop after power up?
Under normal working condition, it should be blinking slowly, i.e. 0.75sec on, 3 sec off. If it is blinking fast, something may be go wrong. Do check if the modem power cable, antenna, SIM Card validity and SIM-Card are properly fixed up.

What type of SMS language can it support?
Any supported SMS language that conforms to the 16bit PDU format. Just make sure the correct language font is installed in the pc or server. Our software is designed as such there is no language barrier for those countries using GSM network. As long as the correct language font type is installed, the SMS alert message can be in that particular language. The beauty here is the ability to create user defined SMS for alerts.

Will TMAS keep resending SMS alerts until the site personnel respond back?
It will only resend to those authorized users with “Resend” enabled based on the resend interval and times setting. The users should also in the authorized user list of the alarm input setting.

What type of output controls are available?
TMAS device output control can be versatile by various below methods.
1. By CMS/Data Center.
CMS/Data center user can go to Control -> Device Control -> Device Name ->  On/Off
2. By authorized users (with Grant enabled)
Authorized users can send SMS control instruction for e.g. “light:on” to turn on its output.
Where “light” is the output channel description and “:on” is the command to turn it on.
3. By any input
Under output channel setting, it can be set to trigger its output by any input triggering
4. By specific input
Under output channel setting, it can be set to trigger its output by a specific input triggering

Why it is not working for hierachical/escalation alerting even if I set the user to level 1?
Authorized users with Escalation mode level = 1 and above will only be activated if there is any resend user who did not response after the resend times set.

What is the maximum mobile numbers that each node can be supported?
Max up to 16 mobile numbers plus one mobile number of data center/CMS.
Individual input setting can be configured to alert different authorized persons.

What type of reports are available?
You can search and sort reports for SMS logging, test and user login report.
That’s your peace of mind and they are useful for management reference and investigation.
